Beautiful Chemistry

Q Instructions This week you will learn about chemical reactions. You will be watching videos of 5 double displacement reactions. I realize you will not be conducting these reactions in person, but even when done in person, you see exactly what the videos display. For this week's discussion, watch the following 6 minute video containing high definition footage of various types of chemical reactions. The resolution in these videos is amazing! Watch the video below then answer the prompts in the discussion. • Which reaction do you think is the most beautiful (from the video)? Write the chemical equation. Why are you drawn to this particular reaction? • What kind of reaction is it? • Use the internet and list several uses or interesting properties of the chemicals that take part in the reaction. Engage in a meaningful conversation with at least two of your classmates.

All of the reactions I saw in this video were beautiful, but the one that stood out the most was 02 Precipitation. The chemical reaction is AgNO3+NaCI ----> AgCI + NaNO3, and I was intrigued to it because of the two displacements involved. It reminded me of an ocean wave when I observed the reaction. Aqueous AgNO3 and aqueous NaCl compounds are mixed, there is a good possibility that a white color precipitate will form if the original silver nitrate and salt chloride concentrations are both high. The solutions of silver nitrate and sodium chloride are both colorless and when they react, a white precipitate and a colorless solution are produced.
